Hummingbirds have a long history of folklore and symbolism in native cultures. The Aztecs saw them as messengers between them and their ancestors or the gods. In Native American culture, Hummingbirds are seen as healers, and bringers of love, good luck and joy.
This hummingbird is created with oil paints, gold leaf and fine brushes. The gold leaf shimmers in the light which is difficult to capture in a photograph. The canvas is painted in several layers of metallic pink acrylic, sanded down to give it a smooth surface and is painted around the sides
