Following her successful exhibition at the Canvas Gallery in Wimbledon Village last year, west country artist Laure Bury returns with a new collection of Butterfly paintings this Spring.

Laure’s unique style and laboured technique captures the essence of femininity, naivety and fragility. Her textured butterfly paintings are an explosion of colour and joy with a gentle ethereal quality.

Laure was born in Versailles, lived in France, Mexico and Mallorca before settling in Devon over 10 years ago. Her paintings can be found in private collections across Mexico, USA, France, Italy, Spain and the UK.

I create joyous and powerful colour compositions that evoke a depth of emotion. I work mainly in oils using the palette knife to build up layers of vibrant colours giving each painting a textured quality. I then use collage, Sgraffito and the splashing techniques to integrate subtle and delicate symbolic butterflies and harmonious natural forms to balance the composition. My Art is a tangible and universal expression of the triumph of the human spirit”.

Laure says she is very happy to be part of Wimbledon Canvas which she chose for its unique setting, sense of space and light and feels honoured to show her paintings amongst an eclectic mix of artists such as Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst, Banksy and Lorenzo Quin.
