ART FOR PERUVIAN CHILDREN

LAURE BURY

Art For Peruvian Orphans – Sat/Sun 8/9 October 2016
Laure Bury is exhibiting her vibrant paintings at Canvas gallery, 169 high Street, Winchester SO23 9BQ on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October from 11 till 4pm. There will be 20% off all paintings until 9th October, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to Laure’s charitable work with the Azul Wasi orphanage in Peru.

In 2013, after completing a course in Art Therapy and a chance meeting with Tom Jolly, also from Devon and the director of Azul Wasi orphanage in Peru, Laure and her son Alex (12 years old) travelled to the orphanage with a suitcase of art materials. Over the course of four weeks, they gave art workshops to children ranging from 3 to 17 years old.

Tom Jolly and his partner Alcides, rescue children from the streets of Cuzco, give them a home, food, clothes and support with their studies until they are old enough to fend for themselves.

There is however, no budget for art materials. Laure says ‘I had never before seen children so hungry for art. They were so excited at the sight of a table with art materials and the opportunity to express themselves freely. Seeing them so happy and grateful was the biggest reward for me’.
